Flying Options
Newburgh/Stewart, Newark, JFK, LaGuardia or Westchester???

This is New York, so nothing is not complicated and options abound. West Point is located in the Hudson Valley about 50 miles north of New York City. Following is a brief summary of your flying options:

  • Stewart/Newburgh (SWF) - This is the closest airport, located 15 miles north of West Point. Since it is a smaller airport, it is less congested, access is easy and you will have a beautiful scenic ride to West Point.  However, it is not serviced by many airlines. Economical flights may be available via Delta (nonstop to Atlanta Hub), Jet Blue (nonstop to Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale and W Palm Beach), Northwest (nonstop to Detroit Hub), and US Airways (nonstop to Philadelphia Hub).  Please note that AirTran will no longer be flying to Newburgh. If you can get a reasonable flight into this airport, this is your best option. Arrangements can be made for inexpensive car service from Stewart/Newburgh to West Point through Visconti Car Service. Visconti offers a van that will seat 4-5, so it would be more economical if people travel together. (See below for more info about Visconti.)  Rental cars are available from several major companies located in the airport.
  • Westchester County/White Plains (HPN) - This is another smaller regional airport located 35 miles from West Point. Access is easier than New York City and car service and rental cars are available. Several major airlines, including American Airlines, fly into HPN.
  • LaGuardia (LGA) - This New York City airport is located 52 miles from West Point. It is serviced by all major airlines, but you will be dealing with New York City congestion and traffic getting to/from the airport.
  • JFK (JFK) - This is the largest New York City airport and is located 64 miles from West Point. It is serviced by all major airlines, but you will be dealing with New York City congestion and traffic getting to/from the airport.
  • Newark/Liberty (EWR) - This is another major metropolitan airport that is located in New Jersey and is 63 miles from West Point. It is also serviced by all major airlines, but you will be dealing with New York City congestion and traffic getting to/from the airport.
