Over the years the National Social Security
Management Association has maintained a strong presence on
Capitol Hill. Currently, the NCSSMA advocacy liaisons in
Washington, D.C. are Sara Garland and Rachel Emmons of the
Greystone Group. They regularly attend Congressional Hearings
that involve Social Security. Reports are then written and
distributed to all members through the Grassroots Committee
within all Regions.
Members are encouraged to stay abreast of and
become involved in proposals and legislation presented on
Capital Hill that ultimately impacts SSA procedures, policies,
and public service. Within each state there is an SSA management
association member who services as a liaison for any issues that
may arise within that state's Congressional or Senatorial
districts. In addition, any SSA employee can log on and find out
what's happening in the "beltway" at the click of a
